Revealing one's competitions is a little like inviting someone to watch you do yoga: a little embarrassing but also maybe you look good doing it. The competitions pictured here span many years yet, in retrospect, reveal some constants.
I remain a formal minimalist and a functional modernist, even with the building's skin. For those of us who really believed Mies when he said less is more, there is simply no place in a warming world for material excess, either in the shape of the spaces or the undulations of the envelope. Everything is performance; everything is use and together they must create poetry.
